The Show Pig Pre-Starter, Starter and Sales Edge™ diets are part of a complete Showmaster® feeding program for show pigs. The Show Pig Pre-Starter, Starter and Sales Edge™ formulas are specially designed to be fed in sequence for optimum performance in show pigs from birth to 75 pounds in bodyweight.

  • Show Pig Pre-Starter diet: Formulated for early-weaned pigs from birth to 25 pounds in bodyweight. Specially designed for high palatability and to promote superior performance and ideal stool quality. Comes in a 3/32-inch micro pellet to encourage early intake.
  • Show Pig Starter diet: Formulated for young pigs from 25 to 50 pounds in bodyweight. Designed for high palatability and to promote superior taste, gut condition and stool consistency. Comes in a 1/8-inch mini pellet.
  • Sales Edge™ diet: Formulated for young pigs from 40 to 75 pounds in bodyweight. Specially designed to promote bloom and skin health  when preparing young pigs for sale, and for easing transition from the sale barn to their new home. Probiotics, vitamin E and added yeast culture also help to minimize the negative effects of environmental stress during travel and transition. Comes in a 1/8-inch mini pellet.

Use the Showmaster® feeding table below as a guide to get your show pigs off to a winning start. Be sure to monitor their body condition and performance closely and adjust feed amounts accordingly.

Feeding Plan

How to develop your feeding plan

  • Step 1. Start with your pig’s weight today and the desired weight at show time.
  • Step 2. Calculate the number of days to the show date.
  • Step 3. Look up the average daily gain for your pig’s weight in the table below.
  • Step 4. Multiply the average daily gain by the number of days to the show date and add your pig’s current weight.
  • Step 5. SLOWER GAIN: If the calculated animal weight is more than desired at show time, consider feeding your pig less than the average daily feed intake level indicated in the table below.
  • Step 6. FASTER GAIN: If the calculated animal weight is less than desired, consider feeding more than the average daily feed intake level indicated in the table below.

Important Management Tips

Important management tips

  • Be sure to keep pigs in a warm, draft-free area from the time they arrive to the time they leave.
  • Provide access to fresh, clean water at all times.
  • De-worm pigs on a regular monthly schedule, rotating de-wormers between treatments for best results.
  • Avoid direct sunlight on light-skinned pigs to minimize the risk of sunburn.
  • Exercise your show pigs by walking them three to five times per week to improve your control in the show ring and your showmanship skills.
